A Story is Told
Battlegazer is a culmination of years as a fan of comics, animation, movies and a desire to self publish. It all started in 1991 when I was given a writing assignment in high school. I was asked to write a fictional story for a creative writing class. I was a huge fan of Eastman's and Laird's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and wanted to create a story similar to it. At the time, little did I know how much of an impact the story would have on my life. Naturally I created a non-human ninja like character which I dubbed "Ninja Fox". He lived in Central Park NY and was the result of some genetic mutation. Not very original but the teacher running the class felt it deserved a B+ so I was happy. Like most of my documents at that time the story was lost in a shuffle and eventually made its way to the garbage, but the story and characters were never forgotten. For some weird reason that character I created for a writing workshop stayed in my head, so much so that I eventually named him Diablo; a name that stuck for almost 13 years. In 1995 I found myself drawing him constantly. The more I drew the larger the universe that surrounded him evolved. I made an attempt in 1996 to self publish a book but could not get enough money to cover printing and promotion with Diamond. Now after 13 years and many years working as a professional designer I've come full circle.
